Portfolio pulse·The numbers

More traffic, not more buyers (yet)

A micro-SaaS for professionals: in the three months to early October it had ~10x the visitors of the three months before, and about nine times the on-site activity. Buyers did not keep pace.

A micro-SaaS for professionals: in the three months to early October it had ~10x the visitors of the three months before, and about nine times the on-site activity.

Where the new visits came from, comparing the last month of that window with the month before: search about four times, AI assistants about two times, direct about five times, social about six times.

The miss: buyers did not keep pace. Since we started measuring purchases on the site, the share of visitors who buy has drifted down; the first weeks converted best. More reach brought more browsers than buyers, so the next work is what a new visitor sees first and the checkout, not more traffic.

A books-niche content brand went from near zero to around a hundred readers a week in about six weeks to early October, from three places: Pinterest pins, an email list and YouTube videos that link back. Its most-visited pages are its product pages. Sales there are still close to zero, and we only just started measuring its shop clicks properly.

The lesson

AI helped us grow traffic. Turning visitors into buyers is still the work.
