Week 1 update: pasted my notes into Gemini and got a wall of cards

I dumped a few pages of research notes into Gemini and asked for flashcards, and it gave me about 40 cards, but half of them were just a sentence from my notes split in two lol. The surprise was how much the quality depends on what I ask for: when I said 'one concept per card, question on the front,' it got noticeably better. Next I want to figure out what makes a card actually worth studying, so does anyone know a good rule of thumb for splitting a dense paragraph into cards? 🤔

Week 1 update: pasted old texts, it still talks like a flyer

Tried giving ChatGPT a handful of my old quote texts and asking it to match how I write. It got closer, but it keeps adding stuff like 'we pride ourselves on quality craftsmanship' that I would never say. Anyway, next I'm going to give it a short list of phrases I actually use and ban the brochure words, then see if it holds up on a basic deck repair quote.

What would you automate first in a shift-swap tracker?

Week one of my swap tracker and I'm trying not to build everything at once. Honestly, the shared sheet fails because nobody knows who approved what. If you were starting from scratch, what would you automate first: the request, the approval, or the reminder? I only get two free evenings a week, so I'd like to pick the right one.

Week 1: first drafts for listings, and where Claude drifted

This week I fed Claude my rough notes for a few candle listings and asked for first-draft titles and descriptions. It saved real time on the blank-page part, but by the fourth listing it started drifting from my tone and repeating the same opening line. Next I'm going to paste a short example listing I like at the top of each batch and see if that keeps things consistent, then try asking it for a photo shot list per product. 🕯️

Still sounding like a brochure, tried feeding it my old texts

Pasted three of my old quote texts into ChatGPT and asked it to write like me. Better, but it still wants to say things like "we are pleased to offer" and I have never said that to anyone. Anyway, next I'm going to give it a short list of words I actually use and a list of ones to avoid, and see if that stops the brochure habit.

Week 1: mapping what Copilot can touch before drafting anything

Before I try any drafting, I spent this week on the compliance side. Three things I'm sorting out: which report data is okay to paste into Copilot, who on the team needs to sign off, and whether our IT policy covers this use at all. What surprised me is that the policy says less than I expected, so I'm writing a one-page summary to send up for approval. Next week I'll test a first draft on a report with no sensitive numbers in it.

How do you check a tool works before your coworkers rely on it?

I'm in week one of sketching a shift-swap tracker for my unit, and honestly the scary part is people trusting it. If it shows the wrong swap, someone misses a night shift. For those of you who've built something others depend on, how do you check quality before you hand it over? I only have two free evenings a week, so I'd like a simple checklist, not a big process.

Week 1: trying to turn a pile of notes into flashcards

This week I pasted a few messy research notes into Gemini and asked it to make flashcards, and the cards came out technically correct but way too broad. lol, one card just said 'explain the methodology.' I'm starting to wonder what actually makes a good flashcard from a dense paper: one claim per card, or one question per card? Next I'll try giving Gemini a stricter format and see if the cards get sharper 📚 Anyone who's done something similar, how did you decide what counts as a card-worthy note?

How do you keep Claude on track across a batch of listings?

Week one of trying Claude for my candle and print listings, and the first drafts are decent but the tone drifts from one listing to the next. For those of you who batch work, how do you keep it consistent, like saving notes on my shop voice and reusing them each session? Curious what a simple setup looks like for someone working evenings after a day job.

Week 1: ChatGPT quotes read like a brochure

Spent the week feeding ChatGPT my old quotes and asking it to write new ones. Every one came back sounding like a brochure, 'we pride ourselves on quality craftsmanship' and all that. Nobody in my town talks like that, and I sure don't. Anyway, next I'm going to paste in a few texts I actually sent customers and see if it can copy how I really write.

What would you automate first in a team reporting workflow?

I'm trying to get an approved Copilot drafting workflow in place for our weekly reports, and I want to start with one step rather than the whole thing. My shortlist: 1) pulling the raw updates into a consistent format, 2) drafting the summary section, 3) flagging anything that needs human review before it goes out. For those who have done this at work, which step would you automate first, and how did you keep it within company policy?

Hi, I'm Kelsey, a candle and print maker trying to speed up my listings

I run a small candle and print shop on evenings after my day job, and writing listings is the part that eats the most time. I'm starting with Claude to get first drafts of descriptions and photo shot lists so I can batch them in one sitting. I'd love to pick up practical tips on prompts and workflows that actually save time 🕯️

Hi, I'm Maya, an ER night nurse trying to fix shift swaps

I work nights in a hospital ER, and our shared swap sheet has become honestly chaotic. I'm using ChatGPT to sketch what a simple shift-swap tracker for my unit would actually need, since I only get about two free evenings a week and don't want to waste them. I'm hoping to learn how to keep a tool simple enough that tired people will really use it.

Hi, I'm Marcus, a marketing manager exploring Copilot for team reports

I manage a marketing team at a mid-size company, and I want to build an approved AI drafting workflow for our weekly reports using Copilot. Right now I'm sorting out where compliance lines sit: what data can go in, what needs review, and who signs off. I'm hoping to learn how others set up guardrails that keep a workflow useful without creating risk for the team.

Hi, I'm Dante, running a small contracting crew

I run a small crew and I'm on job sites most days, so quotes and follow-ups usually get done at night when I'd rather be done for the day. I've been trying ChatGPT to write them, but so far everything comes out sounding like a brochure, and that's not how I talk to customers. Anyway, I'm here to figure out how to get it sounding like me so I can save my evenings.

Hi, I'm Priya, a grad student drowning in research notes

I'm a grad student who spends most nights in the library, and my notes have officially taken over my life lol. I'm starting to build a study tool that turns research notes into flashcards, using Gemini to help me figure it out. I'm really curious how others decide what makes a good flashcard versus a bad one, and where you'd even start with an idea this early 📚
